Go See Your Doctor
If you haven’t been to the doctor in the past year, make an appointment and go.
Look, if you’re going to improve your health or begin the process of becoming a better, healthier version of yourself, you have to start with your doctor. You need a baseline to understand where you are and a consultation to map out a path forward. It is that simple.
If your wife or girlfriend gave you this book or recommended it to you, she loves and cares about you. She wants you to be a better, healthier you. She’s not nagging—yet—but it’s definitely her way of strongly suggesting you make some changes. So, show her you’re listening, that you love her, and that you want to do better by scheduling a doctor’s appointment today.
Don’t have a doctor? Not sure who to call? I get it. Most of us guys don’t sit around talking about doctors unless we’ve broken something. Here are a couple of things you can do to find one:
- Ask a Friend: Doctors love referrals, and you’re likely to trust a recommendation from someone you know.
- Check Your Insurance: Your insurance provider’s website will list doctors in your area and their specialties.
- Do Some Research: Once you’ve narrowed your choices to two or three doctors, Google them. Look for ratings and patient reviews online. If your significant other is the one urging you to go, she’ll probably be happy to help with this part.
Going to the doctor and getting their input on how to start making changes is critical to your success. You can’t fix what you don’t know is broken, and a doctor’s guidance is invaluable in setting you on the right track.
From UT Southwestern Medical Center: “Regular check-ups are crucial for maintaining health. Early detection of potential issues through routine screenings and exams can lead to better outcomes and lower healthcare costs. Regular visits allow for the monitoring of vital signs, like blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and glucose levels, which are essential for preventing chronic diseases.”
